Austria - cycling

Come with us to enjoy the fresh air of the Austrian Alps. We stay in a family-run, three-star hotel in the heart of this wonderful region. Cycle along the valleys with the Alpine peaks towering above. With many little lanes following secret valleys, our routes take us away from the main roads to cycle alongside rushing streams and flower-bedecked farmhouses.

On the first day we take the picturesque narrow gauge railway to Mayrhofen to hire our bikes, and then cycle back to the hotel along the valley. The next three rides set out from the hotel to explore the surrounding area. Each ride stops at a different location for lunch, such as the attractive town of Rattenberg. On our final day we cycle along the valley to return our bikes.

Everyone explores the same areas, but we split into at least two groups to allow people to cycle at a speed with which they feel more comfortable. Our carefully selected routes gradually increase in length. The rides will be led by the Oak Hall team members, with the first one being around 15 miles. The longest ride is around 35 miles.

All the rides are of course optional but by building up the length of the rides through the week, the groups build up their fitness and you may well be surprised to find how far you can cycle! There may be the option to shorten or increase the length of the rides if your group wishes to do so. This makes the holidays ideal for everyone looking for an active and refreshing break.

There will also be a free day, allowing you to explore the local area. Your hire bike will be available so you could head out to the attractive Lake Achensee, for example.

At the next-door village of Fugen there is a thermal spring centre and outdoor pool. The narrow gauge railways and cable cars provide access to many marked walking paths and places of interest along the valley. Further afield, you can access many action-packed activities, such as paragliding and mountain biking.
