The region of Côte d’Or in Burgundy is ideal for cycling, with its gentle, rolling terrain and beautiful scenery. Warm, Mediterranean winds from the south produce a lovely climate in the summer months. One of the many appeals of this area is the chance to explore the unspoilt and authentic charms of rural France. 
 

An excellent destination

Our campsite is located on the edge of the village of Santenay-les-Bains, which is famous for its natural springs. There is a local swimming pool located close to the campsite. 

We travel by luxury coach from the UK. If you prefer, you can fly or drive and meet the group at the campsite. Please note that the group arrive at the campsite on 7th August and depart on 14th August.

 

Cycling through the countryside

On the first day, the team will form groups of people who are happy cycling at a similar speed. A team member will travel with each group.

The Burgundy region is developing a series of routes reserved solely for cyclists and walkers known as the ‘voie verte’ (green route). Our campsite is located just 1km from the route, making an ideal setting for our routes. Along with other forest tracks and country roads, our routes will take us to a different place of interest each day for our lunchtime break. 

 

French chateaux and towns

One of our lunchtime stops, the chateau de Rully, is in a beautiful countryside setting. It combines a mediaeval fortress with an impressive Renaissance house and part of the chateau is open to the public.

Beaune is a beautiful town, with an interesting selection of shops and a vibrant café culture. The Hotel-Dieu, with its brightly coloured roof tiles is one of the most distinctive features of the Burgundy region.  
 

Choose your pace

We will split into different groups depending on the type of cycling you are looking for. Each one will be led by an Oak Hall team member. The first group take everything at a relaxed pace, admiring the scenery, while the fastest group enjoy the chance to prove their fitness! With other groups in between as well, the cycling holidays are ideal for everyone looking for an active and refreshing break.
 

An ideal end to each day

At the campsite, we provide the tents and you can bring whatever makes you comfortable for sleeping, such as an airbed (for more information about what to bring, please see the summer section of our FAQs). We generally allocate two people per tent but they are large enough to sleep three people if you would prefer.

After a day’s cycling we enjoy an energising meal prepared by the Oak Hall team, as well as a Bible talk that is always a highlight. We can then relax and share stories of the day’s cycling or take part in games and activities.
 

A range of cycle rides

Good quality Oak Hall hybrid bikes are available for hire. If you would like to join our cycle rides, please note that we ask everyone to wear a helmet.

We will follow a range of carefully selected routes, which gradually increase in length. The first ride is around 15 miles and the last ride is around 40 miles. All the rides are of course optional but by increasing the length of the rides through the week, the groups build up their fitness and you may well be surprised to find how far you can cycle! 
 

Dates/Prices

The cost includes all taxes, return travel by luxury, air-conditioned double deck coach from Folkestone (other coach pick-ups available at Sainsbury's in Otford or Borough Green train station: £16 return. Click here for more details). It also includes camping accommodation and three meals a day while at the campsite.

Bike hire: £78

The deposit is £50 (if booking more than two months in advance)

Coach timings will be available once the ferry/Eurotunnel schedules have been released.
