The Heart of Scandinavia

Welcome to the Øresund region of Scandinavia, a place where cities and cultures meet in a unique way. Here the metropolitan areas of Danish Copenhagen and Swedish Malmö are separated only by a thin strip of water.

We will explore this fascinating region as we move freely between the two countries, enjoying the seaside towns of Swedish Scania, as well as the castles and cathedrals of Danish Zealand. Scandinavia is a place where interesting history mixes with bustling city life, stunning nature meets modern design, and it’s never far to the countryside to experience the relaxed lifestyle of the locals.

A city on the border

We will be staying in a three-star hotel in the centre of Malmö, which offers a gym, as well as a small number of bikes for hire, free of charge. Breakfast is included and you can either opt for the package of seven evening meals (main course and dessert), or visit the restaurants in the city centre (it is worth just bearing in mind that meals in Sweden are generally more expensive than in the UK).

Malmö is one of Sweden’s largest and most important cities. It combines daring new architecture, like the skyscraper Turning Torso, with beautiful squares surrounded by buildings from as far back as the 14th century. Enjoy a coffee on the Mollevang square or see how people used to live 200 years ago in Ebba’s House museum. Each evening we will meet for a time of singing and a helpful Bible talk.

Hans Christian Andersen's home

Our optional excursion package takes us to Copenhagen, where you can walk along Strøget, one of the longest shopping streets in the world, or go for a stroll along the colourful façades of the Nyhavn harbour. Hans Christian Andersen lived in three different buildings in the harbour and wrote some of his fairy tales here. You might want to visit Tivoli, an amusement park first opened in 1843, or enjoy an afternoon in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art or the Danish design museum.

"I loved the trip to Hamlet's Castle, well worth a visit. "

Hamlet’s castle

Our optional excursion package will also take us to explore more of the Øresund region, which is diverse both in culture and geography. We will journey through Scania and see the rolling hills of Österlen, with its small fishing towns and orchards.

Another day we will travel along the coast of Danish Zealand to Hamlet’s castle, before we head to Roskilde. Here we will learn about the infamous Vikings, who in the end bowed the knee to Christ.

As we travel to Lund we will have the opportunity to trace over a thousand years of history in one of the oldest cities of the region.

Experience Scandinavia

Whether you want to admire Scandinavian design, follow in the trail of Shakespeare’s Danish prince or explore the setting of your favourite TV-series, come with us to the heart of Scandinavia this summer!
