Hungarton and Rutland

Come and enjoy an authentic Oak Hall cycling tour without leaving the UK. Relax on a campsite with hot showers set on an English working farm surrounded by beautiful countryside (postcode LE7 9JF). We also have use of the resort's heated indoor swimming pool, which is 1.5 miles by bike from the campsite, at the main farm site.

The quiet lanes around Hungarton provide miles of cycling with the occasional sheep, but very few cars! It is a new destination for Oak Hall Expeditions, but a favourite destination of some of our cycle leaders: we will be supported by excellent local knowledge of the best coffee shops!

Alternatively, if you're looking for a cycling break in the south of England, you could join us at Otford Manor in September.

Rutland Water

We are only a few miles away from England's smallest and most cycle friendly county: Rutland. Rutland has over 90 miles of cycle tracks and England's second largest lake.

We will cycle the whole way round Rutland Water on car-free paths. You might also like to bring a wetsuit and visit the largest aqua park in the country - a 100m x 80m course of inflatable objects!

Film-set Stamford

Stamford is one of England's finest stone towns and has formed the beautiful scenery for many films such as Pride and Prejudice, Middlemarch and The Golden Bowl. This summer, we're cycling through this classic English town...

Harringworth Viaduct and Wymondham Windmill

Another beautiful backdrop for our cycling, the Harringworth Viaduct is built with over 20 million bricks, the longest British masonry viaduct and a monument to Victorian engineering. 82 arches, 40 foot wide and 70 foot high stride across the Welland Valley.

We will cycle through pretty villages to the Wymondham Windmill and visit the finest ice cream shop north of Avignon!

Refreshing food and re-invigorating teaching

Having enjoyed a packed lunch or stop in a cafe en-route, each evening we will then head back to our campsite for a hearty meal cooked by our team. We follow this with a time of Bible teaching reflecting on the most important things in life before closing our day with a hot chocolate and great conversation.

Camping - the best way to 'Oak Hall'

As an Oak Hall team, we love camping - life in the great outdoors can be so refreshingly simple. Surrounded by the beauty of the countryside, camping is a great way to share time together, deepen friendships and reflect on the biggest themes.

Choose your pace

We will split into different groups depending on the type of cycling you are looking for. The first group take everything at a relaxed pace, admiring the scenery, while the fastest group enjoy the chance to prove their fitness! The holiday is ideal for everyone that is looking for an active and refreshing break.

You are welcome to bring your own bike or hire an Oak Hall mountain bike for £68. Our well-maintained hybrid mountain bikes come in a range of frame sizes.

Pre-arranged routes

Using the knowledge of this part of the UK from some of our regular cycle leaders, we will explore this exciting new region.

We will follow a range of carefully selected routes, which gradually increase in length. With options to extend or shorten most of the rides, the exact length will vary but the first ride is around 15 miles and the last ride is 30 - 50 miles. 95% of our routes are on tarmac country lanes and roads, the small amount of off road is still accessible on a road bike.

All the rides are of course optional but by increasing the length of the rides through the week, the groups build up their fitness and you may well be surprised to find how far you can cycle!

What about Covid-19?

We want to love our neighbours by minimising the spread of Covid-19. By choosing to spend these days outdoors you are making a good choice: fresh air and sunshine are two of the most effective ways to slow the spread. We will do all of our activities in the fresh air and will not socialise inside our tents. We will ask everyone attending to take a free covid test before arrival and if anyone tests positive we will provide them with a full refund.
