A lakeside three-star hotel

If you love sunshine, fresh mountain air and refreshing lakes, then Lake Maggiore will be your ideal summer location. The climate of the region is famed for its mildness, allowing Mediterranean-like vegetation to flourish.

We stay in a traditional, family run, three-star hotel in Pallanza. Overlooking the lake, it offers a buffet breakfast and a three-course evening meal. Our evening meetings, with a helpful Bible talk, are always a highlight.

Relax in a beautiful setting

The shores of the lake invite you to stroll along tree-lined promenades, or to linger in one of the many lakeside cafés and watch the world drift by. Sailing boats, villas, terraced gardens and flowers are all bathed in brilliant sunshine. There are also tennis courts and an excellent open-air swimming pool a short distance from our hotel.

During our stay a major local festival takes place. There are bands playing, interesting stalls to explore and various events including dragon boat racing on the lake.

Alpine village of Macugnaga

Our optional package of three excursions includes a visit to Macugnaga, as well as two interesting boat cruises.

The tranquil Alpine village of Macugnaga is set high on the mountainside. You might choose to take a chair lift up to Pecetto for impressive views of a glacier or ride the cable car as it soars to the heights of Monte Rosa. Look back to enjoy the amazing views of Italy and compare this with the scenic grandeur of Switzerland lying on the other side. Alternatively, you can stroll around the Walser village itself with its quaint shops or enjoy some of the area’s fine walks.

The Borromean Islands

A lake cruise will also provide a relaxing day as we glide across to the famous Borromean Islands.

Isola Bella (‘beautiful island’) is renowned for the splendid Palazzo Borromo, now an art gallery. White peacocks roam in the stunning Italian-style gardens, which rise in terraces. The area is covered with lush southern vegetation – lemon and orange trees, cherry laurels, cedars and camellias.

Isola Madre is a botanical garden on water, abounding in rare plants and exotic flowers. The villa on the island is also worth exploring. The entrance fee to both islands is included in the excursion package.

Cruising across to Stresa

We make the most of our location by the lake by exploring more of our beautiful surroundings on a second boat trip. We head across to the interesting town of Stresa, stopping off at Isola Pescatori (‘fishermen’s island’) on the way. In Stresa, there is plenty to explore including a cable car, shops, cafés, a lakeside beach and a park with free-roaming animals.
