Since the early nineties, as the wars in Yugoslavia began, Oak Hall have been travelling to the Balkans. Originally sharing humanitarian aid and the Message of Jesus, Oak Hall then established a Bible College which is now in its nineteenth year. Graduates from the Bible College are now serving across the Balkans and faithfully sharing the life-changing news of Jesus.
This is an exciting 'Taste of Mission' expedition packed with variety and culture. We travel to meet and serve alongside a number of these graduates as they introduce us to the people and projects with which they are involved.
Flying to Zagreb in Croatia with its bustling squares and distinctive architecture, we explore this beautiful city before travelling east, following the Sava River towards Serbia.
We will meet with graduates of the Belgrade Bible School who are faithfully planting churches. In a land that is said by some to be 'Balkanised' - 'divided' - we will experience a great unity with these growing groups of believers in Jesus Christ from such a variety of backgrounds. We will meet students and other local people who will want to practise their English and talk about deeper things. They will share some of their stories, we will serve them in practical ways, enjoy meals together and stay in their homes.
We continue our journey, travelling to Belgrade where we stay at the Oak Hall Bible School. Using this as a base, we spend time with a Romany community, meet with a city church and explore the cultural highlights of Serbia's capital city.
This may well be a life-changing journey as we are exposed to many different cultures and see the way that others serve the Lord Jesus in such a sacrificial way. Many of us will return home to pray on for this key region and those who serve here.
