Cycling in the heart of Italy

Join us this summer to explore two beautiful regions of Italy by bike. This holiday has been created following the success of the Italian Lakes cycling holiday and is run by the same team.

Our hotel is located in the heart of Italy at Lake Trasimeno, just south of the border between Tuscany and Umbria, areas which are famous for their beautiful scenery and undulating hills. The hotel is away from the bustle of town and city life, in a relaxed setting just 300m from the lake and it also has its own swimming pool. There is an ice cream shop and pizzeria next to the hotel, plus a café by the lake.

Beautiful undulating scenery

Our cycling routes will take us to explore the culture and scenery of this beautiful area, passing through historic towns and villages.

Due to the nature of the surrounding terrain, our itinerary will include a number of hills. This terrain provides the area with the beautiful undulating scenery for which it is famous, but if you are a beginner cyclist, we would suggest trying the Italian Lakes cycling holiday, where there are some flatter options.

However, the team are flexible and want to make sure that everyone enjoys this cycling break. If a group decide they have cycled far enough on a particular day, the guide can bring them back to the hotel to relax by the pool and lake (or enjoy the local homemade gelato next door!)

A range of groups

There will be a number of groups, ideally between 8 - 12 people per group. The groups will cover different distances and also include varying levels of hill climbs, so that anyone who has some experience of cycling can enjoy the rides. The guides are local and are working with the Oak Hall team.

At the point of booking, you will have the option to select city style or hybrid bikes, both of which have 21 gears. City style bikes generally have a more comfortable riding position while hybrid bikes are designed to be suitable for both road cycling and basic off road cycling (e.g. tracks).

Interesting lunchtime destinations

Each of our rides will take us to a different destination, one of the highlights being the convent at Cortona where St Francis of Assisi lived. As an example of an extension for the stronger riders in the groups, a ride to the town of Assisi itself can be undertaken, passing Perugia on the way.

During the week a pizza party with homemade ice cream and live music adds additional spice to this unique week. Each evening we will enjoy a time of singing and a helpful Bible talk.

Join us this summer for a refreshing cycling break in stunning Umbria and Tuscany!
