April is a wonderful time to appreciate the magnificence of
God’s creation. We stay in the comfortable Hotel Staubbach and enjoy the remarkable
beauty of springtime in the Swiss Alps.
There is a wonderful variety of walks and activities to do. The Oak Hall team will give you information on the different things you might like to do and people can head off in smaller groups to see the things of interest to them.
The Alpine flowers burst into life as the snows recede,
revealing the Edelweiss, spring Crocuses and the magnificent blue Gentians. The
flower trail has 150 different species of mountain flowers.
Lauterbrunnen lies below the mighty Jungfrau and Eiger. A
spectacular feature of this cosy alpine village is the 300 metre Staubbach
waterfall. The river has seventy two waterfalls and the village’s name means “many springs”. Inside a 16th century mill there is a fascinating museum of
village life.
Should you choose to use the mountain railway and cable
cars, you are whisked into the heights
of the mountain ranges. At 3454 metres, the Jungfraujoch is the ultimate in
mountain rides, going right up to the top station with incredible views of the
Aletsch Glacier and the valley below.
There is so much to see and experience. The Panoramaweg is a
dream path for walking along the tracks in the mountains past picturesque
villages and farms. There will be plenty of time to relax with a coffee or hot
chocolate at sunny outdoor cafes.
The Lutschine Promenade follows along the riverside. Wengen
is quaint with its car free streets. Birg has a breathtaking 200 metre walk
along a cliff wire mesh path with a sheer drop below. Gimmelwald is reached
only by cable car and overlooks the valley. The chalets make for photo
opportunities in the picturesque villages of Stechelberg, Isenfluh,
Allmendhubel.
Interlaken is the nearest town and is easily reached to
explore the many shops and lakeside cafes. From here the lake steamers provide
cruises on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Near the summit of the Schilthorn there
are superb views from the Skyline viewing platform and the Piz Gloria revolving
restaurant.
The Trummelbach Falls are an incredible sight with ten
waterfalls inside a huge cave. A walkway takes us alongside the thundering
water as it crashes down from the glacier and melting snow.
