Catering: Japan

Below is some information based on our previous visit to the hotels. Please bear in mind that hotels may change their meal offering from time to time.

Breakfast at all the hotels is a wide-ranging buffet. The hotels tend to offer a similar range of dishes such as: corn soup, rice, miso soup, salad (tomatoes, lettuce, sweetcorn etc), potato salad, sweet potato, seaweed, cereals, bread, croissants, noodles, boiled egg, scrambled eggs, fish, bacon, chips, fruit (pineapple, tinned fruit), tomato juice, coffee, orange juice (from a machine) and fizzy drinks. Occasionally hotels indicate allergy information on small signs in front of each dish but this isn't common.

For the evening meal, for the meals that are included, we will generally eat at restaurants outside of the hotel. There is likely to be a mixture of buffet meals and set meals. It is worth bearing in mind that hotels/restaurants in Japan are generally not as used to dealing with dietary requirements as those in the UK may be. Staff may speak limited English and for buffets, signs on the dishes may only be in Japanese in some cases, so it may be difficult to confirm what the dish contains or the ingredients.

For the flights, Emirates Airlines offer categories e.g. vegetarian or gluten free. You can check the full list of categories on their website. They aren't able to offer specific meal requests that don't fit in one of their categories e.g. vegetarian with no onion. We will choose the category that we think matches closest with your dietary requirement but please let us know if you have a specific request (e.g. if your diet is gluten free and vegetarian you can let us know if you would prefer the gluten free option or the vegetarian option, otherwise we will choose one of these).
